Hello and welcome to another warehouse safety video by Premier Handling Solutions. Today we are talking about Fire Protection. Do you want to know how to reduce the risk of fires in your warehouse? Of course you do! And this video has all the information you need to do it.
Fire Protection involves the proper handling of combustible and flammable materials. Let’s talk about what to do and what not to do to in order to avoid fires in your warehouse.
The first principle of fire protection is to make sure the paths to all fire escape routes are clear of obstructions. Also make sure that access to firefighting equipment is unobstructed as well. The ability to react quickly to a fire hazard is crucial to fire protection. Next, always use the proper containers to dispose flammable waste. Avoid allowing combustible materials accumulate in any area, and never store any materials that are highly combustible within 10 feet of a structure that is vulnerable to fire. Always conduct an evaluation of the risks of any operation that presents a fire hazard. Be especially cautious of activities like welding or anything involving active electrical wire.
Make sure you have the proper fire safety equipment for your warehouse. The fire extinguisher is very common and effective, but you may want additional equipment like fire hoses depending on the hazards present in your warehouse’s operations. Make sure all fire safety equipment is maintained and regularly inspected for defects. Keep emergency fire safety equipment in plain view, and be sure that everyone who works in your warehouse is aware of where they are located. All employees should be trained in fire protection. Do not allow smoking near any fire hazard. Smoking is dangerous enough as it is.
Your warehouse should be properly equipped with a fire alarm system. If your warehouse is a loud environment, implement an alarm system with visual alerts. Post Fire Department codes and regulations in public areas and near phones.
Ok. That should be enough to effectively prevent fires from causing damage in your warehouse. Fire protection is an ongoing process, so be sure that all workers in your warehouse are continuously following these guidelines. See you next time!
