How to Use a Pallet Washer – Video Transcript
Hello and welcome to the Premier Handling Solutions’ video series on running a safer and more efficient warehouse. In today’s video, we’re going to explain the necessity of and procedures for using a pallet washer.
In December of 2009, Tylenol had a problem on their hands. Tylenol Arthritis Pain Reliever 100-count caplets were under fire for causing illness in many of its consumers. The strange musty smell of the pills led many to believe the pills were contaminated. Eventually, Johnson and Johnson recalled their Arthritis Pain Reliever as well as several other products, including Tylenol PM and Children’s Tylenol.
Johnson and Johnson’s recall was not in vain: upon inspection, harmful chemicals were in fact found in the recalled medicine. The primary chemical contaminant found in the medicine was 2,4,6-tribromoanisole, which is used to treat wooden pallets. The wooden pallet industry was put under scrutiny and many wooden pallet manufacturers were negatively impacted.
While those companies were suffering from this contamination mishap, other proactive companies were able to completely avoid this problem by using sterile plastic pallets. Paired with a pallet washer and a regular washing schedule, plastic pallets are very safe and aren’t treated with harmful chemicals.
